High On Life is jumping into virtual reality, and this isn’t some fan-made mod wishlist item — Squanch Games is bringing the talking-gun shooter to PS VR2, PC via SteamVR, and Meta Quest with gameplay rebuilt specifically for VR.
What happened
The original High On Life launched as a flat-screen first-person shooter packed with sarcastic alien weapons and a story that never stopped mocking itself. Now that chaos is getting a proper VR conversion rather than a lazy screen-in-headset port. Rebuilding the gameplay for VR means the shooting, movement, and interactions with your wisecracking gun buddies are being redesigned around motion controls and headset tracking instead of just being slapped onto a flat build.
Why it matters
VR shooters live or die on how the gunplay feels in your hands, and High On Life’s whole identity is built around goofy, talkative weapons that constantly react to what you’re doing. Translating that into VR — actually reloading, aiming, and reacting to a gun that’s roasting you mid-fight — has way more potential than most licensed VR tie-ins. Supporting PS VR2, SteamVR, and Meta Quest simultaneously also means Squanch isn’t picking a lane; they’re covering console, PC, and standalone headset players in one move, which is a bigger commitment than most studios make for a VR spin-off.
What to expect
Details are still light — this dropped as a teaser announcement rather than a full reveal, so exact mechanics, release windows, and pricing haven’t been confirmed yet. Expect more concrete gameplay footage and platform-specific details to roll out as Squanch Games gets closer to launch. Given the game’s alien-abduction bounty-hunter setup, VR seems like a natural fit for exploring its weirder planets up close instead of just watching them scroll by on a screen.
If Squanch pulls this off, High On Life VR could be one of the more entertaining VR shooters to land across three platforms at once — assuming the humor translates as well as the gunplay.
