Photography and time travel don’t usually share a genre, but Australian indie studio Monomyth Games just proved they can. Say hello to Photo Roboto: A Timesnap Adventure, a PC game that turns a camera into a puzzle-solving, curse-breaking time machine.

Monomyth Games officially unveiled Photo Roboto this week, confirming a 2027 launch window for PC. You play as Peppino, a robot photographer armed with something called the Timewarp Camera — a gadget that doesn’t just take pictures, it lets you snap the same location across the past, present, and future. The setting is a mysterious Italian island wrapped up in an ancient curse, and your job as Peppino is to piece together what actually happened there using nothing but your lens and some clever timeline-hopping.
Why it matters
Photography mechanics have popped up in games before (think Pokémon Snap or Umurangi Generation), but tying them directly to a time-manipulation gimmick is a genuinely fresh spin. If the Timewarp Camera works the way it sounds, expect puzzles built around comparing “photo states” of the same spot across eras — spotting what changed, what’s missing, or what hasn’t happened yet. That’s a neat excuse to make exploration and observation the actual gameplay loop instead of combat or platforming, which is refreshing in a market saturated with both.
There’s also a strong sense of place here. Setting a curse-mystery on an Italian island gives Monomyth room to lean into warm, sun-bleached visuals and folklore-flavored storytelling, which could make Photo Roboto stand out visually even before you touch the time-hopping hook.
What to expect
Details are still thin — we don’t have gameplay footage, a concrete release date beyond “2027,” or word on pricing yet. What we do know is the core pitch: a robot photographer, a camera that bends time, and an island with secrets buried in its past and future. For a studio announcement this early, that’s already a stronger hook than most.
2027 is a long way off, so temper expectations on scope until Monomyth shows actual gameplay. But the concept alone — solving a mystery by literally photographing history — is enough to put Photo Roboto on the watchlist for anyone who likes their adventure games a little offbeat.
