Kril the hermit crab just got a serious glow-up. Another Crab’s Treasure is now available on Nintendo Switch 2, and if you already own it on the original Switch, the jump to the new hardware won’t cost you a cent.
What happened
Aggro Crab’s soulslike-with-a-shell has landed on Switch 2 as a free upgrade, not a separate purchase. Existing owners on Switch can move over automatically, and the improvements are exactly what you’d hope for from a mid-gen hardware bump: higher, more stable frame rates, a sharper 1080p resolution, and noticeably better overall stability during combat-heavy sections. For a game built around tight parries and punishing boss fights, that kind of consistency isn’t cosmetic, it directly changes how the game feels to play.
Why it matters
Another Crab’s Treasure already stood out for taking the Soulslike formula somewhere genuinely different, a tiny hermit crab scavenging trash for armor while wading through a satire of ocean pollution, and for being one of the more approachable entries in the genre thanks to its adjustable difficulty options. But the original Switch version was also where the game struggled hardest, with frame drops and rough patches during boss encounters that dulled some of that precision. A free performance pass on Switch 2 fixes the version of the game that arguably needed it the most, and it’s a smart move from Aggro Crab to keep goodwill with the Nintendo crowd rather than treating them as an afterthought.
What to expect
If you’ve been holding off on the Switch version specifically because of performance complaints, this is the moment to jump back in. Expect the same tricky boss roster, the same scavenged-junk armor systems, and the same oddly charming environmental message, just running the way it was probably meant to on portable hardware. New players picking up a Switch 2 should have no trouble finding it, and current Switch owners get the update without any extra spending, which is always a welcome surprise in a year full of paid “next-gen” upgrades.
Free upgrades that actually fix a game’s biggest weakness are rarer than they should be, and this one lands right where it counts.
